Paul Bristow — Don’t Scrap the Tiger Pass for Under-25s
To: Paul Bristow, Mayor of Cambridgeshire and Peterborough
We’re calling on you to keep the Tiger Pass in place for all under-25s across Cambridgeshire and Peterborough.
The Tiger Pass has been a huge success — delivering over 1.8 million £1 bus journeys for young people getting to college, work, training, and apprenticeships. It’s opened doors, cut costs, and helped create a fairer, greener transport system.
But now, you are proposing to:
- Scrap cross-boundary travel from 1st September, meaning many young people will see fares jump from £1 to £3
- Restrict the scheme to those in formal education, excluding young workers, carers, and those looking for work
- Cut the age limit down to just under-21s, excluding thousands of 21–24-year-olds still getting started in life
- And potentially scrap the Tiger Pass altogether
This would hit young people hardest, especially those in rural communities who rely on buses to reach opportunity. At a time when the cost of living remains high, removing affordable travel risks increasing isolation, car dependency, and inequality.
Meanwhile, your administration continues to push forward funding free car parking in Peterborough. It's simply not fair to subsidise drivers while pricing out young people from public transport.
We urge you to:
- Keep the Tiger Pass for all under-25s
- Retain cross-boundary travel
- Reject plans to cut the age limit or scrap the scheme
- Invest in a fair, accessible, and inclusive transport system
The Tiger Pass is helping young people build their futures. Please don’t take it away.
Keep the Tiger Pass. Keep it fair. Keep it running.
